Jérôme Vidal appointed Head of the Mergers Unit at the Autorité de la concurrence
Jérôme Vidal has been appointed Deputy General Rapporteur and Head of the Mergers Unit with effect from 17 June. He succeeds Etienne Chantrel, whom the Autorité would like to thank for all his work over the past seven years.
Biography
Jérôme Vidal holds a postgraduate diploma (DEA) in Political Science from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Bordeaux (Bordeaux Institute of Political Studies) and is a graduate of the Ecole Nationale de la Concurrence, de la Consommation et de la Répression des Fraudes (ENCCRF — National School of Competition Policy, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control). He began his career as an inspector with the Direction Générale de la Concurrence, de la Consommation et de la Répression des Fraudes (DGCCRF — Directorate General for Competition Policy, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control).
In 2006, he joined the central administration of the DGCCRF, where he worked as a draftsman in the merger control office until November 2009. That same year, he joined the Directorate General for Competition (DG COMP) as a seconded national expert in the unit responsible for merger control in the information, communications and media sectors.
In 2012, Jérôme Vidal joined the Autorité de la concurrence, first as European affairs adviser in the Office of the President, then as permanent case officer in the Mergers Unit.
In September 2014, he became head of the Brigade Interrégionale d’Enquêtes de Concurrence de Lille (Lille Interregional Competition Investigation Unit) within the Direction Régionale des Entreprises, de la Concurrence, de la Consommation, du Travail et de l’Emploi (DIRECCTE — Regional Directorate for Business, Competition, Consumer Affairs, Labour and Employment) in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region.
From 2016 to 2020, Jérôme Vidal returned to the Autorité de la concurrence, as Deputy Head of the Mergers Unit. He then joined the Secrétariat Général des Affaires Européennes (Secretariat General for European Affairs), reporting to the Prime Minister, as head of the Competition and State Aid Office.
Since July 2022, Jérôme Vidal had been consumer affairs and commercial practices adviser to Olivia Grégoire, the French Minister for Business, Tourism and Consumer Affairs.
